Building for the Future

Looking after our environment

Westek is committed to understanding and reducing its impact on the environment. We aim to reduce our carbon emissions and our use of natural resources so as to better manage our environmental footprint and minimise our carbon impacts. We seek to drive the right behaviours by forging a culture based on respect and responsible business practices – a culture that supports our people in making ethical and sustainable decisions. Our environmental priorities are:

  • Adapt to climate change
  • Use materials and products from sustainable sources
  • Create greener and cleaner working conditions

Sustainability

Responsible Production
Sustainability is a key consideration throughout the life-cycle of our products:
  • All our products are designed to have a long service life
  • All our products can be disassembled for reuse or recycling without the need for specialist tools
  • Westek is WEEE registered and will take back any Westek product for recycling
  • Our packaging is suitable for reuse and recycling
  • Wherever possible we coordinate shipments

We continue to reduce our carbon footprint through:
  • All our general waste is sorted, with minimal amount going to landfill
  • All waste electrical is sent to a local specialist company for recycling
  • Replacing equipment such as air conditioning units at the end of their life with more energy efficient units, and moving to LED lighting where possible and practical
  • A Cycle to Work Scheme to encourage employees to use a more sustainable form of commuting
  • Moving closer to paperless offices through the transition to Microsoft 365
  • Identifying and assessing environmental risks such as packaging waste. Waste management initiatives are encouraged, and materials are recycled where practicable

Providing a safe workspace

We strive towards best practice with regards Safety and Environmental Management in all our enterprise activities, and consider our duty of care to the people in our communities in the highest regards and as a critical stakeholder to the business.

As a key business objective, we are committed to operating to the highest safety standards and reducing the impact of our activities on those around us. Initiatives such as employee training, enhancing our facilities with new technologies, and ensuring our supply chain aligns to our approach and values are critical to maintaining our approach.

Inclusivity & Diversity

We believe in building a workplace and culture that is inclusive – one where our differences are not only embraced but make us stronger.

This includes driving equal opportunities, including reducing the disability employment gap. We are a member of the UK Government’s Disability Confident Scheme which encourages employers to think differently about disabilities and to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. We believe in fairly remunerating our staff for the investment of their commitment to Westek ensuring we assess our employee packages regularly against market expectation.

Looking after our communities

We want to make a positive social and economic contribution to the communities in which we live and work.

In 2022, we adopted Wiltshire Air Ambulance as our official charity of the year (Reg. Charity No. 1144097) and have supported their vital work through fundraising and voluntary activities. In 2022 we raised in excess of £3k through some of our team taking part in the Race to the Stones, an event that sees participants complete the 100km route along the Ridgeway, and other fundraising activities such as Brew with the Crew Bake Sale. We have also signed up to their recycling initiative, and update our staff on volunteering opportunities including stewarding at events and providing admin support.

Our JustGiving page is now live. To help us raise funds to keep the air ambulance flying, visit our fundraising page.
